It was a quiet morning in the village, and Cutis had a secret plan. Behind their house stood a tall papaya tree, full of ripe, golden fruit. Cutis had noticed it the day before and couldn’t stop thinking about it. “If I pick those papayas, Dad will be so happy,” he whispered to himself.
Without telling anyone, Cutis grabbed a small basket and sneaked outside. The air was still fresh, and the ground was slightly wet from last night’s rain. Looking up at the tall tree, he felt both excited and nervous. “I can do this,” he said, trying to sound brave.
Slowly, Cutis began to climb.
At first, everything seemed fine. He carefully placed his hands and feet, moving higher and higher. The papayas were close now, glowing in the sunlight. “Almost there!” he smiled.
Inside the house, Dad was busy fixing tools when he noticed how quiet it had become. “Where’s Cutis?” he wondered. A strange feeling made him step outside—and what he saw made his heart race.
Cutis was high up in the tree, reaching for a papaya.
“Cutis! Be careful!” Dad shouted.
Startled by the sudden voice, Cutis lost his balance for a second. The branch beneath him cracked slightly. The basket slipped from his hand and fell to the ground. “Ahh!” Cutis cried as he clung tightly to the tree.
For a moment, everything felt frozen.
Dad quickly ran under the tree. “Don’t move! Hold on tight!” he called out, trying to stay calm even though he was very worried.
Cutis’s hands were shaking, but he listened. Slowly, carefully, he began to climb down, step by step. Dad stayed close, ready to catch him if anything went wrong.
Finally, Cutis reached the ground safely.
Dad immediately hugged him. “You scared me!” he said, his voice full of relief. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Cutis looked down, feeling sorry. “I just wanted to surprise you with papayas…”
Dad sighed, then smiled gently. “I appreciate your kindness, but safety comes first.”
Together, they picked the papayas the right way. And although the moment had been scary, it became a lesson Cutis would never forget—and one that left everyone watching holding their breath until the very end.
