The summer afternoon was incredibly hot, and everyone in the house looked tired from the burning sun. Baby monkey Zika sat beside the kitchen window fanning himself with a banana leaf while his uncle wiped sweat from his forehead. Even puppy Kun was lying on the floor with his tongue sticking out from the heat.
Suddenly, Uncle smiled and said, “Today is too hot! Let’s make something cold and refreshing.”
Zika’s eyes immediately sparkled with excitement. He quickly jumped onto the chair and watched carefully as Uncle brought out a giant fresh watermelon from the basket. The bright red fruit looked juicy and sweet. Zika clapped his tiny hands happily because watermelon was his favorite summer treat.
Uncle cut the watermelon into small pieces while Zika removed the black seeds one by one. Although he was small, he worked very carefully and proudly placed the seeds into a little bowl. Uncle laughed and praised him for being such a smart helper.
Next, they placed the watermelon pieces into a blender with milk, sugar, and a little ice. Zika eagerly pressed the blender button and jumped in surprise when the loud sound started. The pink mixture swirled around beautifully inside the machine.
But the clever little monkey was not finished yet. Zika suddenly ran outside and returned carrying fresh mint leaves from the garden. Uncle looked surprised.
“You want to add mint?” he asked.
Zika nodded proudly. Uncle smiled because it was actually a wonderful idea. The fresh mint gave the watermelon ice cream an even cooler and more refreshing taste.
After mixing everything together, they poured the creamy pink liquid into small molds and placed them in the freezer. Waiting was the hardest part for impatient little Zika. Every few minutes he opened the freezer door to check if the ice cream was ready yet.
Finally, the watermelon ice cream was finished. Uncle handed one to Zika first. The baby monkey took a big bite and his eyes instantly widened with joy. The sweet icy flavor cooled him down immediately.
Soon, the whole family gathered together enjoying the delicious homemade treats. Everyone praised Zika for his smart idea with the mint leaves. Hearing the compliments made him grin proudly while happily licking his watermelon ice cream under the warm summer sunshine.
