It was a quiet morning in the little jungle home, but something unusual was happening. Baby monkey Xuka, who normally loved mealtime, was sitting quietly in front of her bowl, refusing to eat. Her mother looked at her with surprise and concern.
“Xuka, why aren’t you eating?” her mother asked gently, placing the bowl of fresh fruit closer to her.
Xuka turned her head away and crossed her tiny arms. “I’m not hungry,” she mumbled.
Her mother knew that wasn’t true. Xuka always got excited when she saw bananas and sweet mango slices. Something else was bothering her.
A little later, Xuka’s father came over and sat beside her. “Hey, little one,” he said softly. “Did something happen?”
Xuka stayed quiet for a moment, her eyes looking down. Then she whispered, “I don’t want to eat this…”
Her parents exchanged a glance. “Why not?” her mother asked.
“I saw the bigger monkeys eating different food yesterday,” Xuka said slowly. “They had colorful treats and crunchy snacks. This food looks boring.”
Her mother smiled gently, finally understanding. “Oh, I see. You want something new and exciting, don’t you?”
Xuka nodded, still unsure.
Her father chuckled softly. “Trying new things is fun, but the food we give you helps you grow strong and healthy,” he explained. “Those treats are not for every day.”
Still, Xuka didn’t move.
Then her mother had an idea. She picked up the fruit and arranged it into a fun shape—a smiling face made from banana slices, berries for eyes, and mango for a bright little nose.
“Look at this,” she said playfully. “Your food is smiling at you!”
Xuka looked up, surprised. A small smile appeared on her face. “It’s cute…” she said.
“Give it a try,” her mother encouraged.
Slowly, Xuka took a bite. Then another. Soon, she was eating happily again.
Her parents watched with relief.
“Sometimes,” her father said, “it’s not that we don’t want to eat—we just need a little creativity.”
Xuka giggled, finishing her meal. From that day on, mealtime became fun again, filled with smiles, colors, and a little imagination.
