Little monkey Xuka was usually the happiest monkey in the village. Every morning, Xuka jumped around the yard, played with puppy Kun, and followed Mom everywhere with a bright smile. But today was different. Xuka sat quietly under the old wooden table with watery eyes and a sad face. Even Kun could not make Xuka laugh.
Mom became worried when she saw the little monkey so silent. “What did I do to make Xuka so sad?” she asked herself softly. She tried giving Xuka bananas, warm milk, and even favorite cookies, but Xuka only looked down at the floor.
Dad came home from work and noticed the strange atmosphere immediately. “Why is our little monkey unhappy today?” he asked. Mom explained everything, feeling confused and guilty. She wondered if she had accidentally hurt Xuka’s feelings earlier in the morning.
Then Mom suddenly remembered something. Earlier that day, Xuka had proudly shown her a small drawing made with colorful crayons. But because Mom was busy cleaning the kitchen, she only glanced at it quickly and said, “Later, Xuka, I’m busy now.” Maybe that simple moment had made the little monkey feel ignored.
Mom slowly walked toward Xuka and sat beside the tiny monkey. She gently hugged Xuka and whispered, “I’m sorry if I made you sad. Can you show me your drawing again?” Xuka looked up with teary eyes and carefully handed over the paper.
The drawing showed the whole family holding hands under a rainbow. In the corner, Xuka had written, “I love Mom and Dad.” Mom’s heart melted instantly. She realized that Xuka did not want toys or snacks — Xuka only wanted attention and love.
Mom kissed Xuka’s forehead and praised the beautiful picture again and again. Dad joined them, and soon puppy Kun happily jumped into their laps. Finally, Xuka smiled brightly once more.
That evening, the family spent time together laughing, drawing, and playing games. Mom learned an important lesson: even small actions can affect a little heart. Sometimes, children do not need expensive gifts. They simply need love, care, and someone who truly listens to them.
