It was a quiet afternoon when little Monkey LYLY was playing her favorite game of indoor ball tossing. Her mother had reminded her many times, “Please don’t play with balls inside the house.” But LYLY was having so much fun that she forgot all about the rule.
As she tossed the ball a little higher than usual, disaster struck.
Crash!
The ball hit a beautiful blue vase sitting on the shelf by the window. The vase fell to the floor and shattered into dozens of tiny pieces.
LYLY froze.
Her heart raced as she stared at the broken vase. She knew exactly which vase it was. It was her mother’s favorite one, a special gift from Grandma many years ago.
“Oh no… what have I done?” LYLY whispered sadly.
For a moment, she thought about hiding the pieces and pretending nothing had happened. But the more she thought about it, the worse she felt.
When her mother returned home, LYLY slowly walked over with tears in her eyes.
“Mom,” she said softly, “I broke your favorite vase. I’m really sorry. I was playing inside even though you told me not to.”
Her mother looked at the broken pieces on the floor and remained silent for a moment.
LYLY lowered her head, expecting anger and disappointment.
Instead, her mother gently knelt beside her and gave her a warm hug.
“I’m sad that the vase is broken,” her mother said honestly, “because it was very special to me. But I’m proud that you told me the truth and took responsibility for what happened.”
LYLY looked up in surprise.
“Mistakes happen,” her mother continued. “What matters most is being honest and learning from them.”
Together, they carefully cleaned up the broken pieces and talked about safer games to play indoors.
That evening, LYLY drew a picture of the beautiful vase to help preserve the memory of it.
From that day forward, LYLY remembered two important lessons: always listen to Mom’s advice, and always tell the truth, even when it’s difficult.
