One sunny afternoon, little monkey Lala was excited because Mom had prepared her favorite lunch—a basket filled with sweet bananas, juicy mango slices, and soft rice cakes. The delicious smell made Lala’s tummy rumble with happiness. She couldn’t wait to enjoy every bite.
As Lala carried the basket to the garden, she noticed her friends playing nearby. They smiled and waved, hoping they could all have lunch together. But Lala hugged the basket tightly and thought, “If I share my food, there won’t be enough left for me.”
When her friends politely asked if they could have a small piece of fruit, Lala quickly shook her head. “Sorry! This is all mine,” she said, turning away. Her friends looked disappointed but didn’t argue. Instead, they quietly sat under another tree with the little food they had.
As Lala happily ate alone, something unexpected happened. A playful squirrel jumped onto the picnic blanket, knocking the basket over. Bananas rolled down the hill, birds flew away with pieces of rice cake, and the mango slices landed in the grass. Before Lala could gather everything, most of her lunch was gone.
Feeling sad and hungry, Lala sat down and began to cry. Seeing her tears, her friends immediately ran over. Even though Lala had refused to share earlier, they kindly offered her some of their own food. “Friends help each other,” one of them said with a warm smile.
Lala felt embarrassed by her selfishness. She realized that her friends were much kinder than she had been. After thanking them, she sincerely apologized for refusing to share. Her friends happily forgave her, and together they enjoyed the meal while laughing, talking, and playing games in the sunshine.
From that day forward, Lala always remembered that food tastes better when shared with people you care about. She learned that selfishness can leave you lonely, but kindness and generosity create stronger friendships and happier memories.
Whenever Mom packed a picnic basket after that, Lala made sure there was enough for everyone. Sharing became her favorite habit, and every meal turned into a joyful celebration with family and friends. The lesson stayed in her heart forever: true happiness grows when we choose generosity over selfishness.
