It was a quiet afternoon at home, and everything seemed unusually calm. Mom was busy in the kitchen preparing dinner, humming softly to herself, while little CUTIS played in the living room. Or at least, that’s what Mom thought. What she didn’t know was that CUTIS had his eyes on something very special sitting on the kitchen counter — a beautifully decorated chocolate cake.
The cake had been made for a small family celebration later that evening. It was covered in smooth frosting, topped with colorful sprinkles, and finished with a bright red cherry on top. For CUTIS, it looked like the most magical treasure in the world. He tried to ignore it at first. He really did. But the sweet smell of chocolate kept drifting through the house, calling his name.
Slowly and quietly, CUTIS tiptoed into the kitchen. He looked left. He looked right. Mom was still busy chopping vegetables with her back turned. This was his chance! He dragged a small chair across the floor — carefully, but not carefully enough. The tiny scraping sound made him freeze for a moment. When Mom didn’t react, he continued his mission.
Standing on the chair, CUTIS reached out his little finger and gently dipped it into the thick frosting. Just a tiny taste, he told himself. But one tiny taste turned into two… then three. Soon, there was a small finger-shaped trail across the side of the cake. CUTIS couldn’t help but smile as he licked the sweet frosting from his fingers.
Suddenly, he heard Mom’s voice behind him.
“CUTIS… what are you doing?”
He slowly turned around, his eyes wide and his mouth covered in chocolate. Frosting was smeared across his cheeks, and the evidence was impossible to hide. For a moment, there was silence. Then Mom burst out laughing.
Instead of getting upset, she scooped him into a big hug. “You silly little cake thief!” she said, wiping his face.
CUTIS giggled, knowing he had been completely busted — but also knowing he was deeply loved. That sneaky cake moment turned into one of the sweetest memories they would always laugh about together.
