The morning sun had just begun to shine over the family farm when little CUTIS eagerly grabbed his woven basket and hurried outside. Today was a special day because the dragon fruit in the garden had finally ripened. Their bright pink skin and fresh green scales glowed beautifully among the cactus vines, making the entire garden look colorful and inviting.
“Dad, can I help harvest the dragon fruit today?” CUTIS asked with sparkling eyes.
His father smiled proudly. “Of course! Just remember to pick the ripe ones carefully.”
CUTIS nodded happily and got to work. With gentle hands, he carefully twisted each ripe dragon fruit from the branches and placed it into his basket. He made sure not to damage the delicate plants, just as Dad had taught him. Before long, his basket was filled with sweet, juicy fruit.
As he carried the heavy basket home, CUTIS noticed something that made him stop.
His dad was sitting quietly under a tree, wiping sweat from his forehead after spending hours working in the hot sun. His clothes were dusty, and he looked completely exhausted.
CUTIS suddenly had an idea.
Instead of thinking about selling the dragon fruit or enjoying it himself, he hurried into the kitchen. He washed the fruit carefully, peeled the bright pink skin, and cut the juicy flesh into small cubes. Then he blended it with cold water, a little honey, and a few ice cubes to make a refreshing dragon fruit smoothie.
He poured the drink into Dad’s favorite cup and added a small slice of dragon fruit on the rim as a decoration.
Walking slowly toward his father, CUTIS smiled and said, “Dad, you’ve been working so hard. I made this just for you.”
His father looked surprised.
“You made this for me?” he asked.
CUTIS nodded shyly.
Dad took a sip and smiled warmly. The cool, sweet drink instantly refreshed him after the long morning of work.
“This is the most delicious dragon fruit drink I’ve ever had,” Dad said, giving CUTIS a big hug. “Not because of the fruit—but because it was made with love.”
Mom, who had been watching from the porch, wiped away happy tears. She was touched by CUTIS’s thoughtful heart and kindness.
That evening, the family shared the remaining dragon fruit together around the dinner table. They laughed, talked, and enjoyed every bite, knowing that the sweetest harvest wasn’t the fruit itself—it was the love they shared as a family.
From that day forward, CUTIS learned that even a small act of kindness could brighten someone’s day. And every time dragon fruit season arrived, he always saved the very first harvest to make something special for Dad, reminding everyone that love is the greatest gift anyone can give.
