CUTIS was a cheerful little boy who always loved helping his family with daily chores. One bright morning, Mom handed him a small envelope with a little money inside and asked him to buy fresh vegetables and bread from the village market. CUTIS smiled proudly, tucked the envelope safely into his pocket, and happily set off on his adventure.
As he walked down the quiet country road, everything seemed exciting. Colorful butterflies fluttered across the fields, birds sang from the trees, and friendly neighbors greeted him with warm smiles. CUTIS stopped for just a moment to watch a family of ducks crossing a small stream. Without realizing it, the envelope slowly slipped out of his pocket and landed on the ground behind him.
When CUTIS finally reached the market, he reached into his pocket—and froze. The envelope was gone.
His heart began to pound. He searched every pocket again and again, looked inside his small bag, and even checked beneath the fruit baskets nearby. Nothing. Tears filled his eyes as he imagined how disappointed Mom would be. Feeling scared and ashamed, he slowly walked back home with his head hanging low.
The moment he saw Mom waiting outside, CUTIS could no longer hold back his tears. He admitted everything, explaining that he had accidentally lost the money and was deeply sorry.
To his surprise, Mom didn’t raise her voice or become angry. Instead, she gently wiped away his tears and gave him a warm hug.
“Money can be earned again,” she said softly. “But honesty is much more valuable. I’m proud that you told me the truth instead of hiding your mistake.”
Her calm reaction completely surprised CUTIS. Together, they walked back along the road, hoping they might find the missing envelope. Along the way, an elderly neighbor called out to them. He had found the envelope lying near the stream and had been waiting for someone to claim it.
CUTIS thanked the kind neighbor with a grateful smile. Mom thanked him as well and explained how important honesty and kindness are in every community.
That evening, CUTIS learned two unforgettable lessons. First, being careful with responsibility matters. Second, love and understanding are far more powerful than anger. Mom’s unexpected reaction filled his heart with courage, reminding him that mistakes can become valuable lessons when they are met with honesty, forgiveness, and compassion.
