Abu was excited to help his mom with the daily chores around the family garden. That morning, they had harvested a basket full of fresh vegetables, including carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, and leafy greens. Mom trusted Abu with an important job—carry the basket carefully from the garden to the kitchen.
Feeling proud, Abu hugged the basket with both arms and started walking. At first, everything went smoothly. But as he skipped happily along the garden path, he didn’t notice that a few vegetables were bouncing out of the basket one by one. A tomato rolled into the grass, a cucumber landed beside the flowers, and several carrots fell onto the dirt path behind him.
Abu continued walking with a big smile, completely unaware that he was leaving a trail of vegetables everywhere.
When Mom reached the kitchen, she looked into the basket and immediately noticed it was only half full. Surprised, she asked, “Abu, where did the rest of the vegetables go?”
Abu blinked in confusion. He looked inside the basket and scratched his little head. “I… I thought they were all still here,” he replied honestly.
Together, they walked back toward the garden. Along the way, Mom pointed to the missing vegetables scattered across the path. Abu’s eyes grew wide with surprise as he realized what had happened. He couldn’t believe he had dropped so many without even noticing.
“I’m so sorry, Mom,” Abu said with an embarrassed smile.
Mom gently laughed instead of getting upset. “Everyone makes mistakes when they’re learning,” she said kindly. “The important thing is to pay attention and figure out how to do better next time.”
She showed Abu a simple trick—holding the basket with both hands and walking slowly instead of skipping. She also explained that heavier vegetables should be placed at the bottom while lighter ones stayed on top to keep everything balanced.
Abu carefully picked up each vegetable, brushed away any dirt, and placed them neatly back into the basket. This time, he walked slowly beside Mom, checking the basket every few steps to make sure nothing fell out.
When they finally reached the kitchen, every vegetable was safely delivered. Mom smiled proudly and gave Abu a warm hug. “See? You learned something new today.”
Abu grinned from ear to ear. He realized that being a good helper wasn’t about being perfect—it was about learning from mistakes and trying again. From that day on, he carried every basket with extra care, becoming one of Mom’s most reliable little helpers in the garden.
