One sunny morning, Lily woke up feeling very excited. She stretched her arms, looked around the house, and suddenly had a brilliant idea.
“Today, I’m going to cook breakfast all by myself!” Lily proudly announced.
Dad, who was sitting nearby, looked surprised. “Are you sure you’re ready, Lily?”
“Of course!” Lily replied confidently. “I’m a great chef!”
Lily hurried into the kitchen and put on a large apron. Unfortunately, the apron was much too big for her and almost reached the floor. As she tried to tie it around her waist, she accidentally spun herself around and nearly fell over.
Dad quickly caught her.
“I’m okay!” Lily giggled. “Real chefs have to be brave!”
First, Lily decided to make scrambled eggs. She carefully picked up an egg and tapped it against the bowl.
Nothing happened.
She tapped it again.
Still nothing.
Lily frowned and gave the egg one very strong tap. Crack! The egg broke open, but some of it landed in the bowl while the rest splashed onto the table.
“Oh!” Lily whispered.
She looked around nervously before wiping the table with a towel. Unfortunately, the towel stuck to the egg, making an even bigger mess.
Next, Lily wanted to toast some bread. She carefully placed two slices into the toaster and waited. While waiting, she started dancing around the kitchen and singing a silly breakfast song.
Suddenly—pop!
The toast jumped out, and Lily screamed before bursting into laughter.
Dad could no longer hold back his laughter. “Chef Lily, are you winning the battle with breakfast?”
“I think breakfast is fighting me!” Lily said.
Finally, Lily mixed the eggs with a little help from Dad and placed the toast on a plate. She added some fresh fruit and proudly arranged everything on the table.
When Mom came into the kitchen, she looked at the messy counter, the flour on Lily’s apron, and a tiny piece of egg in Lily’s hair.
“What happened here?” Mom asked.
Lily proudly stood beside her breakfast.
“I cooked it myself!”
Mom and Dad laughed warmly and gave Lily a big hug. The kitchen was a disaster, but breakfast looked delicious. Lily learned that cooking could be messy, funny, and sometimes difficult—but with patience and a little help, even a beginner chef could create something special!
