It was a peaceful morning, but little monkey LYLY had already decided that she was going to do things her own way. Her mother had been patiently calling her over, encouraging her to get ready and have her fur groomed. But LYLY wasn’t interested in listening.
“Come here, LYLY. Let Mommy help you get cleaned up,” her mother gently encouraged.
LYLY looked at her mother for a moment, then slowly turned her head away. Instead of coming closer, she walked over to a comfortable spot and stubbornly sat down. Her expression seemed to say, “No, thank you. I can take care of myself!”
Her mother couldn’t help but laugh at LYLY’s attitude.
LYLY began carefully grooming herself. She used her tiny hands to touch and arrange her fur, concentrating as seriously as if she were doing an important job. Every few seconds, she glanced toward her mother to make sure she was watching.
Mom tried again.
“LYLY, let Mommy help you. You’ll look much nicer when we’re finished.”
But LYLY remained determined. She continued grooming herself without paying attention to her mother’s advice. Whenever Mom reached toward her, LYLY would move slightly away and continue what she was doing.
It was such a funny sight that everyone nearby started smiling.
Although LYLY was being stubborn, her mother understood that she was simply becoming more independent. Instead of forcing her, Mom patiently watched and allowed LYLY to enjoy the experience.
After several minutes, LYLY finally seemed satisfied with her work. She proudly sat up straight and showed off her freshly groomed fur.
Mom looked at her and smiled.
“Well, look at you! You really wanted to do it yourself!”
LYLY seemed very pleased with herself. She gave her mother a happy look and settled comfortably beside her.
Seeing LYLY’s determination made the moment especially sweet. She might have ignored her mother’s urging, but she was learning how to take care of herself and express what she wanted.
Mom knew there would be many more moments like this as LYLY grew. Sometimes she would listen, and sometimes she would stubbornly insist on doing things her own way.
But that was part of growing up—and Mom wouldn’t trade these funny, adorable moments for anything.
