One warm afternoon, Monkey Lily was happily playing near the house when Dad called her.
“Lily, would you like to come to the market with me?” Dad asked.
Lily immediately stopped playing and ran over with a big smile.
“Yes, Dad! What are we buying?”
Dad pointed toward the market basket. “We need to buy some fresh watermelon. I want to make delicious watermelon juice for the family.”
Lily became very excited.
“Watermelon juice? I want to help!”
The two of them walked together toward the busy market. Lily stayed close to Dad and listened carefully whenever he spoke. She was determined to be a helpful little daughter.
When they arrived, Dad showed Lily several large watermelons.
“Which ones do you think look fresh?” he asked.
Lily carefully inspected them. She gently tapped one, then another.
“Maybe this one, Dad!”
Dad smiled. “Good choice. Let’s check another one too.”
After choosing a few ripe watermelons, Dad paid the seller. Lily obediently carried a small bag while Dad carried the heavier watermelons.
On the way home, Lily noticed that Dad was carrying too much.
“Dad, let me help you!”
She tried to carry one watermelon with both hands. It was almost as big as she was!
“Whoa!” Lily exclaimed as she struggled to hold it.
Dad quickly helped her and laughed.
“You don’t need to carry the heavy ones, little helper!”
Lily giggled. “I just want to help!”
Back home, Dad carefully cut the watermelon into pieces. Lily watched with great curiosity as the bright red fruit appeared inside.
“Wow! It’s so juicy!”
Dad put the watermelon pieces into the blender, while Lily helped place the cups on the table.
When the blender started, Lily covered her ears and laughed.
Finally, the fresh watermelon juice was ready.
Dad poured the bright red juice into several glasses and handed one to Lily.
She took a sip and smiled.
“Mmm! It’s delicious!”
Dad smiled proudly. “It tastes even better because you helped me.”
Lily hugged Dad happily.
That afternoon, the whole family sat together and enjoyed the refreshing watermelon juice. Lily felt proud because she had listened to Dad, helped with the shopping, and made the family’s special drink even more enjoyable.
