It started as an ordinary day, but for Lala, it quickly turned into one she would never forget.
That morning, Mom asked Lala to help Grandma in the garden. “Just a few simple tasks,” Mom said with a smile. But Lala, feeling lazy and a little stubborn, rolled her eyes. “I’ll do it later,” she muttered, more interested in playing than helping.
Grandma didn’t complain. She quietly continued her work under the warm sun—watering plants, pulling weeds, and carrying small baskets of vegetables. From a distance, Lala watched, but she didn’t move. Hours passed, and “later” never came.
By the afternoon, dark clouds gathered, and a sudden rainstorm poured down. Grandma rushed to protect the plants, trying her best to cover them. Mom joined her, but without Lala’s help, it was difficult to save everything in time.
When the rain finally stopped, the garden was a mess. Some plants were damaged, and the baskets Grandma had worked so hard to fill were scattered and soaked.
Lala stepped outside and froze.
Seeing Grandma tired and Mom quietly cleaning up made her chest tighten with guilt. She realized that her small decision to ignore their request had made things harder for everyone.
“I’m… sorry,” Lala said softly, her voice trembling. “I should have helped.”
Mom looked at her gently. “Sometimes, the things we delay matter more than we think.”
Grandma smiled kindly, despite her exhaustion. “Helping each other at the right time is what keeps everything growing—not just the garden, but our hearts too.”
Those words stayed with Lala.
The next morning, before anyone asked, Lala was already in the garden. She carefully watered the plants, fixed the soil, and helped Grandma replant what was lost. This time, she didn’t wait.
Mom watched from the doorway, proud but quiet.
As the sun rose, the garden slowly came back to life—and so did Lala’s understanding. She learned that responsibility isn’t just about doing tasks, but about caring enough to act when it matters most.
From that day on, Lala didn’t say “later” anymore. She chose “now”—and that made all the difference.
