Dark clouds gathered over the forest, and within minutes, heavy rain began pouring from the sky. Animals hurried to find shelter while the wind shook the trees. Abu, the playful little monkey, was safely tucked beside his loving mom under a large leafy branch. His mom knew the rain would only get stronger, so she decided it was time to move to a safer place.
“Come on, Abu,” she gently said, reaching out her hand.
But Abu stubbornly shook his head. He hugged his mom tightly and refused to let go. He was scared of the loud thunder and didn’t want to leave the only place where he felt safe. No matter how much his mom encouraged him, Abu buried his face in her fur and cried.
Soon, the rain became even heavier. Water began collecting around the tree roots, making the ground slippery. Other monkeys waiting nearby couldn’t continue their journey because everyone was trying to help convince Abu to move. His refusal created a difficult situation for the entire group.
Some of Abu’s friends tried making funny faces to cheer him up. Others found large leaves to use as umbrellas. One older monkey explained that staying too long in one place during a storm could be dangerous. Still, Abu wouldn’t budge.
His mom remained calm. Instead of getting upset, she softly hugged him and whispered comforting words into his ear. She reminded Abu that they would stay together no matter where they went. Slowly, Abu’s breathing became calmer. He looked around and realized everyone was waiting because of him.
Feeling a little embarrassed, Abu finally nodded. Holding his mom’s hand tightly, he carefully walked with the group toward a dry cave nearby. Everyone smiled with relief as they reached safety just before the strongest part of the storm arrived.
Inside the cave, Abu apologized for causing trouble. His friends happily accepted his apology, knowing he had simply been frightened. They shared fruit, laughed together, and listened to the rain from their cozy shelter.
That rainy day taught Abu an important lesson: being brave doesn’t mean you’re never afraid. It means trusting the people who love you, listening when they protect you, and moving forward together even when the storm feels scary.
