It was one of the hottest days of the summer, and the bright sunshine covered the family farm from morning until afternoon. Even the birds rested quietly in the shade, while the animals searched for cool places to escape the heat. Little Abu and the baby monkey could already feel the warm weather, so they stayed close to Mom, hoping she had a fun idea to cool everyone down.
Mom smiled and led them to the vegetable garden, where a large, ripe watermelon had been growing for weeks. Its deep green stripes and round shape made it look perfectly ready to eat. Abu clapped his hands with excitement while the baby monkey bounced happily beside him.
Together, they carefully carried the heavy watermelon back to the outdoor table. Mom washed the fruit, picked up a large knife, and sliced it open. Instantly, the bright red flesh and juicy aroma filled the air. Tiny drops of sweet juice sparkled in the sunlight, making everyone even more excited.
Abu couldn’t wait another second. He picked up a big slice and took a giant bite. The watermelon was sweet, juicy, and wonderfully refreshing. “Yum!” he laughed as the cool juice dripped down his chin.
The baby monkey tried to copy Abu but held the slice upside down at first, making everyone laugh. Mom gently turned it the right way, and the little one happily munched away, giggling after every bite. Before long, the baby’s face was covered with sticky watermelon juice, making the moment even funnier.
Mom joined in, enjoying her own slice while watching the two little monkeys smile from ear to ear. They laughed together, compared who had the biggest watermelon seed, and even had a friendly contest to see who could spit a seed the farthest into the garden. Their cheerful laughter echoed across the farm.
After everyone had eaten their fill, Mom collected the watermelon rinds to feed the farm animals and cleaned up the table together with Abu. The baby monkey proudly helped carry the empty plates, eager to be part of the teamwork.
As the afternoon breeze finally began to cool the air, the family relaxed beneath the shade of a large tree. Their tummies were full, their hearts were happy, and the summer heat no longer seemed so strong.
Sometimes, the simplest moments bring the greatest joy. Sharing a fresh watermelon, plenty of laughter, and time together reminded Abu, Mom, and the baby monkey that family love is the sweetest way to beat even the hottest summer day.
