The house felt unusually quiet that morning. Baby Monkey stayed close to Mom, sensing that something was different. In one corner of the room were several boxes filled with things that reminded them of Lala.
Mom gently looked at the boxes and took a deep breath. Every little item carried a memory, and even seeing them brought tears to her eyes. Baby Monkey watched her carefully, then slowly moved closer and held onto her.
Mom knew they couldn’t keep everything scattered around forever. She decided it was time to carefully pack away Lala’s belongings so the house could feel peaceful again.
Baby Monkey wanted to help.
Mom opened the first box and began sorting through the memories. There were little toys, familiar clothes, photographs, and small objects that Lala had once treasured. Baby Monkey picked up each item carefully, looking at Mom as if asking whether it should go into the box.
Sometimes Mom smiled when she remembered a happy moment. Other times, her eyes filled with tears.
Baby Monkey seemed to notice immediately. Whenever Mom became sad, the little monkey would move closer and gently place a hand on her arm. It was a simple gesture, but it gave Mom comfort.
Together, they continued packing.
Although they were trying to put the memories away, neither of them could truly forget Lala. Every photograph seemed to bring another story back. Mom remembered the laughter, the playful moments, and all the precious days they had shared.
Baby Monkey also seemed to understand that these things were special. Instead of treating them like ordinary objects, the little monkey carefully placed each one into the box.
After several hours, the room was much tidier. The boxes were closed and placed safely in a quiet corner.
Mom sat down and held Baby Monkey close.
“We’re not forgetting Lala,” Mom seemed to realize. “We’re just learning how to keep the memories in our hearts.”
Baby Monkey rested peacefully against her, as if agreeing.
The pain hadn’t disappeared, but somehow the two of them felt a little stronger. They had faced the memories together instead of facing them alone.
Before leaving the room, Mom looked at the boxes one last time. She smiled through her tears, remembering that love doesn’t disappear simply because belongings are packed away.
Baby Monkey reached for Mom’s hand, and together they walked away.
It was a difficult day, but it reminded them that healing doesn’t mean forgetting. Sometimes, it means finding a gentle way to carry the memories forward while slowly learning to smile again.
