The sun was shining brightly, and the temperature seemed hotter than ever. Mom had planned a trip to the market to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, and ingredients for dinner. Little CUTIS was excited to come along, but as soon as he stepped outside, he squinted at the blazing sun.
“Oh no, it’s so hot!” CUTIS cried, fanning himself with his tiny hands.
Mom smiled and handed him a small hat. “This will help.”
CUTIS wore the hat, but after only a few minutes of walking, he still felt warm. The sunlight followed him everywhere. He looked around for ideas while Mom continued toward the busy market.
Along the way, CUTIS noticed people carrying umbrellas. Some wore large hats, while others stayed under the shade of trees. Then he spotted something that gave him a clever idea.
Near a fruit stand, there was a large basket filled with fresh banana leaves. The leaves were wide, green, and perfect for blocking the sun.
CUTIS politely asked the vendor if he could have one leaf. The vendor laughed and handed him the biggest leaf in the basket.
Immediately, CUTIS held it above his head like a giant umbrella.
“It works!” he cheered.
The huge leaf created cool shade wherever he walked. People passing by couldn’t help but smile at the adorable sight. Some even stopped to take pictures of the little one carrying his leafy umbrella.
As they continued through the market, CUTIS proudly marched beside Mom. He stayed cool while helping carry small shopping bags. Whenever the sun moved, he adjusted the leaf to keep the shade over himself and sometimes over Mom too.
“You’re very thoughtful,” Mom said warmly.
CUTIS grinned. “Everyone deserves a little shade on a hot day!”
By the time they finished shopping, many vendors were calling him “The Banana Leaf Boy.” CUTIS loved the nickname.
When they returned home, he carefully placed the leaf in the garden and told everyone about his market adventure.
That evening, Mom shared the story with Dad, and they both laughed.
CUTIS’s cute solution had turned an ordinary shopping trip into a fun memory. Sometimes, the simplest ideas are the most brilliant—and the cutest!
