It was a busy afternoon on the family farm, and Mom asked CUTIS to prepare lunch while she worked in the vegetable garden. Wanting to surprise everyone, CUTIS proudly put on his tiny chef’s apron and gathered fresh carrots, tomatoes, eggs, and herbs from the farm.
“I can do it all by myself!” CUTIS said with a big smile.
He carefully washed the vegetables, chopped them into small pieces, and placed a pot on the stove. Soon, the delicious smell of vegetable soup filled the kitchen. CUTIS stirred the soup with a wooden spoon while humming his favorite song.
But there was one problem—CUTIS had spent the whole morning helping Dad harvest vegetables and feed the animals. He was completely exhausted.
As the soup slowly simmered, CUTIS leaned against the kitchen table “just for a second.” Within moments, his eyes became heavy, and before he knew it, he had fallen fast asleep while still holding the wooden spoon!
The funny sight was unbelievable. Every few seconds, CUTIS sleepily stirred the soup without even opening his eyes. Then he nodded off again, almost like he was dreaming about cooking. His little chef’s hat slowly slipped over his face, making him look even funnier.
Just then, Mom walked into the kitchen. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
“CUTIS!” she laughed. “Are you cooking or taking a nap?”
CUTIS suddenly woke up with a surprised jump. He looked around in confusion before realizing everyone was giggling. Even Dad and Yen Nhu had come into the kitchen after hearing Mom laugh.
Embarrassed, CUTIS scratched his head and smiled shyly. “Maybe… I was doing both!”
Everyone burst into laughter.
Luckily, the soup hadn’t burned. In fact, it smelled wonderful! Mom tasted a spoonful and gave CUTIS a big thumbs-up.
“It’s delicious!” she said proudly. “But next time, take a rest before you start cooking.”
The family enjoyed the warm meal together while joking about CUTIS’s “sleep-cooking” adventure. Even CUTIS couldn’t stop laughing at himself.
That funny day became one of the family’s favorite memories. CUTIS learned that working hard is wonderful, but getting enough rest is just as important. After all, a good chef needs both energy and careful attention—and maybe a nap before cooking, not during it!
