It was a bright and sunny morning, and Farmer CUTIS woke up full of excitement. Today was the perfect day to harvest the ripe papayas growing in the family garden. After putting on his tiny straw hat and carrying a small basket, CUTIS proudly announced, “Dad, I can do it all by myself!”
Dad smiled and encouraged him to be careful. “Take your time, and if you need help, just call me,” he said before continuing his work nearby.
CUTIS confidently marched into the papaya field. The trees were tall, and the golden-orange papayas looked delicious. He carefully picked the fruit from the lower branches, filling his basket with juicy papayas. Feeling proud of himself, he decided to reach one giant papaya hanging much higher than the rest.
Using a small wooden ladder, CUTIS slowly climbed toward the giant fruit. Just as he stretched out his hand, the ladder wobbled! He grabbed the papaya tightly, but it was much heavier than he expected. The huge fruit came loose all at once, causing CUTIS to lose his balance.
With a funny “Whoa!” he tumbled into a soft pile of leaves while the giant papaya bounced down the hill like a runaway ball. His basket tipped over, sending freshly picked papayas rolling in every direction. Some even floated into a small stream nearby!
Covered in leaves and a little muddy, CUTIS couldn’t help laughing at the silly situation. Still, he realized he couldn’t gather all the fruit by himself.
“Dad! I need a little help!” he called with an embarrassed grin.
Hearing his voice, Dad hurried over and found CUTIS sitting beside the scattered papayas, scratching his head and giggling. Instead of getting upset, Dad burst into laughter too. Together, they chased the rolling papayas, rescued the ones near the stream, and carefully packed them into larger baskets.
Dad gently reminded CUTIS that asking for help isn’t a sign of failure—it’s part of learning something new. CUTIS nodded happily and promised to be more careful next time, especially when climbing ladders.
By the end of the day, the father-and-son team successfully harvested every ripe papaya. They celebrated with fresh papaya slices and sweet smoothies while laughing about the unforgettable adventure.
