One sunny morning, little Lala the baby monkey woke up feeling strange. She rubbed one side of her face with her tiny hand and let out a soft whimper. Mom quickly noticed that Lala’s right eye looked swollen and puffy. It was almost half closed, and poor Lala seemed uncomfortable.
“Oh no, my sweet Lala! What happened to your eye?” Mom asked gently, pulling her close.
Lala pointed toward the garden outside. Mom immediately began to wonder what could have caused it. The day before, Lala had been happily playing near the tomato plants, chasing butterflies, and peeking into the flowers. Mom carefully checked around Lala’s eye and saw no serious injury, but it was a little red.
Bibi, who had been watching nearby, said, “Maybe a tiny bug bit her while she was playing!”
Mom thought that might be possible. She remembered seeing bees and little insects flying around the flowers. Another thought crossed her mind—maybe some dust or a small leaf had gotten into Lala’s eye while she was running around.
Worried but calm, Mom gently cleaned around Lala’s eye with a soft cloth dipped in warm water. Lala stayed still, trusting her mom completely. Mom made sure not to rub too hard. After that, she placed a cool, clean cloth over the swollen eye for a few minutes to help reduce the puffiness.
Lala seemed to feel a little better and leaned against Mom’s chest.
Still concerned, Mom decided to keep a close watch on her. She made sure Lala stayed indoors, away from dust and bugs, and gave her plenty of water and healthy fruit to help her recover. Bibi even brought her favorite banana slices to cheer her up.
By the afternoon, the swelling had already started to go down. Lala opened her eye a little wider and gave Mom a tiny smile.
Mom kissed her forehead and said, “I’m so glad you’re feeling better. Next time, be careful in the garden, my little explorer.”
Lala hugged her mom tightly, feeling safe and loved. Thanks to Mom’s quick care and attention, her swollen eye soon healed, and by the next day, she was back to her playful, happy self again.
