Lily always loved spending time with her dad. Every morning, she would wake up early just to enjoy breakfast with him before he left for work. But one rainy morning, Lily had a different plan. She didn’t want her dad to leave, and she was determined to keep him at home for just a little longer.
As Dad picked up his work bag and searched for his car keys, he noticed they were missing. He looked on the table, in his pockets, and even under the sofa cushions. “That’s strange,” he said with a puzzled smile. Lily quietly sat on the couch, hugging her favorite teddy bear and pretending not to know anything.
Dad laughed and asked, “Lily, have you seen my keys?” She simply shook her head and gave him the sweetest innocent smile. But her eyes sparkled with a tiny secret.
After searching for several more minutes, Dad noticed Lily giggling softly. “I think someone knows more than she’s saying,” he teased. Lily finally stood up, walked to the toy box, and carefully pulled out the missing keys from beneath a stuffed bunny.
“I hid them,” she admitted shyly. “I didn’t want you to go to work today. I wanted you to stay home and play with me.”
Dad’s heart melted. He knelt beside Lily, gave her a warm hug, and gently explained why he had to go to work. “Daddy works so we can take care of our family and enjoy fun days together. Even when I’m at work, I’m always thinking about you.”
Lily listened carefully. Although she still wished Dad could stay, she understood his words. Dad promised that after work they would visit the park, eat her favorite ice cream, and spend the entire evening together.
With a brighter smile, Lily handed Dad the keys and gave him one last hug before he left. She stood by the window waving until his car disappeared down the street.
That evening, Dad kept his promise. They laughed, played, and shared wonderful memories together. Lily realized that even though Dad had to work, the love between them never changed. Sometimes, the happiest moments come after patiently waiting, especially when they are shared with the people we love most.
