LYLY had been curious all morning. She noticed that Dad was carrying a large package into the house, but every time she tried to peek inside, he gently moved it away and smiled.
“What could it be?” LYLY wondered.
She followed Dad from room to room, tilting her little head and making the funniest expressions. Her curiosity grew bigger and bigger until she could hardly wait any longer.
Finally, Dad called out, “LYLY, come here! I have a surprise for you!”
LYLY quickly ran into the living room. In the middle of the room stood a beautiful little rocking chair made especially for her. It was just the right size, with a comfortable seat and smooth wooden arms.
For a moment, LYLY froze.
Her eyes became wide, and she stared at the chair as if she could not believe what she was seeing. Then she slowly walked around it, carefully touching the seat with one tiny hand.
Dad laughed. “Go ahead, LYLY. It’s yours!”
That was all LYLY needed to hear!
She quickly climbed onto the rocking chair and sat down. At first, she moved very carefully. The chair gently rocked backward and forward.
LYLY’s eyes grew even wider.
Then suddenly, she started rocking faster!
Back and forth she went, holding onto the arms of the chair. Her adorable face was filled with surprise, excitement, and pure happiness. She looked at Dad as if to say, “Is this really mine?”
Soon, LYLY began laughing and making happy little sounds. She rocked forward, then backward, again and again. Every time the chair moved, her excitement became bigger.
Dad watched her with a warm smile. Seeing LYLY so happy made him happy too.
After playing for a while, LYLY hugged the rocking chair and refused to get down. She even tried to pull a small blanket onto it, as if she had already decided that this would become her favorite place in the whole house.
Later that afternoon, LYLY sat peacefully in her new rocking chair, gently moving back and forth while Dad sat nearby.
Her excitement had turned into a sweet, contented smile.
