LYLY had spent the whole afternoon having the time of her life outside. She ran through the garden, climbed around her favorite spots, and played happily until her little feet were covered in dirt. By the time she returned home, her clothes were messy, her hands were dusty, and there were even a few leaves stuck in her hair.
The moment LYLY walked through the door, her mother took one look at her and smiled.
“Oh my goodness, LYLY! Look at you! You are completely covered in dirt,” Mom said. “Come on, little one. It’s time for a bath.”
But LYLY immediately stopped.
She shook her head.
“No!”
Her mother was surprised. Usually, LYLY enjoyed a warm bath, especially after a long day of playing. But this time, she refused to move. She crossed her arms, stepped backward, and looked at the bathroom as if something scary was waiting inside.
Mom gently asked, “Why don’t you want to take a bath?”
LYLY didn’t answer. Instead, she hugged herself tightly and shook her head again.
Mom began to wonder what was wrong. Had LYLY gotten hurt while playing? Was she feeling sick? She carefully checked her little arms and legs, but LYLY seemed perfectly fine.
Then Mom noticed something unusual.
LYLY was hiding one of her hands behind her back!
Curious, Mom gently asked LYLY to show her what she was hiding. At first, LYLY refused. But after a few moments, she slowly opened her hand.
Inside was a tiny, beautiful flower she had found while playing.
LYLY had been protecting it all the way home because she wanted to save it as a special surprise for her mother. But she was afraid that if she took a bath right away, the delicate flower might get wet and fall apart.
Mom’s heart melted when she discovered the reason.
“Oh, LYLY,” she said softly. “You were protecting this for me?”
LYLY nodded with a shy smile.
Mom carefully took the little flower and placed it safely in a small cup. Then she hugged LYLY and promised that her precious gift would stay dry.
Finally, LYLY happily agreed to take her bath.
Afterward, clean and cozy, LYLY sat beside her mother and smiled at the tiny flower on the table. Mom kissed her gently, grateful for the sweet surprise.
Sometimes, even the smallest secret can hide the biggest love.
