LYLY was bursting with excitement when her mother announced they were going to the swimming pool. She quickly packed her towel, swimsuit, goggles, and her favorite colorful life vest. The little monkey hugged the vest tightly because it had helped her feel safe and confident during many swimming adventures.
Just as they were about to leave, Mom gently stopped her.
“Today, you don’t need to bring your life vest,” Mom said with a warm smile.
LYLY’s cheerful expression immediately changed. She looked down at the vest and felt disappointed. She couldn’t understand why Mom suddenly wanted her to leave behind something she loved so much. For a moment, she worried that swimming without it would be scary.
Seeing LYLY’s sad face, Mom knelt beside her and patiently explained. “You’ve been practicing your swimming lessons very well. Today, we’ll stay in the shallow pool together, and I’ll be right beside you the entire time. Your instructor also wants you to practice your floating and kicking skills without depending on the life vest.”
Although LYLY was still unsure, she trusted her mother and agreed to give it a try.
When they arrived at the pool, Mom stayed close as LYLY carefully stepped into the water. At first, she felt nervous without her favorite vest. But with gentle encouragement, she practiced floating, kicking, and moving her arms just as she had learned during her lessons.
Little by little, LYLY noticed something surprising. She was balancing much better than she expected. Every successful kick gave her more confidence. Mom cheered proudly from only an arm’s length away, reminding her that she was doing an amazing job.
Soon, LYLY was happily splashing through the shallow water with a big smile. She realized that leaving the life vest at home wasn’t a punishment—it was a chance to discover how much she had already learned. She still understood that safety always comes first, and she knew the life vest would be important for deeper water or boating trips. But today was the perfect opportunity to practice under close adult supervision.
On the way home, LYLY hugged her mother and thanked her for believing in her. She learned that growing stronger sometimes means trying new challenges carefully, with the support of people who love you. That day turned her disappointment into confidence, making it one of her happiest swimming memories.
