It was a bright and peaceful morning, and Monkey Lyly was excited to spend the day playing around the house. She wore her favorite little dress, the one her mother had carefully washed and prepared for her. Lyly loved it so much that she twirled around proudly whenever she wore it.
After breakfast, Lyly noticed a small pile of leaves outside. Curious, she hurried over to investigate. She climbed onto a low wooden bench, jumped down, and began chasing a butterfly that fluttered between the plants.
Suddenly, RIIIP!
Lyly froze.
She looked down and discovered a small tear in the side of her dress. Her eyes grew wide, and she quickly covered the damaged spot with both hands.
“Oh no!” Lyly whispered.
She immediately imagined her mother discovering what had happened. Lyly knew her mother would probably be worried about her dress, especially because it was one of her favorites.
Instead of telling the truth, Lyly decided to hide the tear.
She hurried inside, found a quiet corner, and tried to keep the damaged part out of sight. Whenever her mother walked nearby, Lyly quickly turned around or sat down.
Her mother soon became suspicious.
“Lyly, why are you acting so strangely today?” she asked.
Lyly shook her head and smiled nervously.
“Nothing, Mama!”
But every few minutes, she checked her dress to make sure the tear was still hidden.
Later, Lyly tried to help her mother with some chores. Unfortunately, while carrying a small basket, the tear became even bigger.
Lyly gasped and immediately dropped the basket.
Her mother turned around.
“What happened?”
Lyly stood completely still. She knew there was no way to hide it anymore.
With a shy expression, Lyly slowly showed her mother the torn dress.
“I’m sorry, Mama,” she said softly. “I accidentally tore it while playing.”
Her mother looked at the dress, then at Lyly. Instead of getting angry, she smiled and gently hugged her.
“It’s okay, sweetheart. Accidents happen. Next time, just tell me the truth.”
Lyly nodded happily, relieved that her secret was finally out.
Her mother brought out a needle and thread and carefully repaired the little tear. Lyly watched closely, amazed that her favorite dress could look almost new again.
From that day on, Lyly learned an important lesson: when something goes wrong, telling the truth is much better than hiding it.
