Monkey Lyly had a secret—and it was a delicious one. Earlier that afternoon, while her mom was busy cleaning the house, Lyly quietly slipped out and used her saved coins to buy her favorite snacks from a small shop nearby. Crispy chips, sweet candies, and even a chocolate bar were tucked neatly into a tiny bag. But now came the hard part: getting them into the house without her mom noticing.
As Lyly approached the front door, her eyes darted around nervously. She could already imagine her mom’s disapproving look if she found out. “Snacks before dinner? Absolutely not!” her mom would say. Determined to avoid that, Lyly tiptoed inside, carefully closing the door without making a sound.
She quickly hid the bag behind her back when she heard footsteps. “Lyly, is that you?” her mom called from the kitchen.
“Yes, Mom! I just got back from playing!” Lyly replied, trying to sound normal. Her heart was racing, but her face stayed calm.
Thinking fast, Lyly grabbed a nearby book and pretended to read, slowly inching toward her room. When her mom peeked into the living room, Lyly gave her a sweet smile, as if nothing was unusual. Her mom nodded and went back to cooking.
Once the coast was clear, Lyly dashed into her room and hid the snacks under her pillow. “Phew, that was close,” she whispered to herself. But just as she was about to relax, her mom’s voice came again, “Lyly, can you come help me set the table?”
Lyly hesitated. She didn’t want to leave her secret stash unattended, but she also didn’t want to raise suspicion. So, she quickly covered the pillow with a blanket and rushed out.
All evening, Lyly acted extra helpful and cheerful, hoping her mom wouldn’t suspect a thing. Her clever tricks seemed to work—for now. But as she lay in bed later that night, sneaking a quiet bite of chocolate, she couldn’t help but giggle.
Being sneaky was hard work—but sometimes, it was also a little fun.
