Monkey Lyly stood quietly in front of the mirror, staring at the outfit her mother had prepared for her. It was a bright yellow shirt with funny green flowers and oversized blue pants that looked much too big for her tiny body. The moment Lyly saw it, her cheerful mood disappeared completely.
Today was supposed to be a fun day because her mother planned to take her to the town market. Usually, Lyly loved going outside, especially when she could eat sweet fruit snacks and wave at everyone along the road. But now she felt embarrassed just imagining people seeing her wearing such a strange outfit.
Her mother happily called from outside, “Lyly, are you ready yet?”
Lyly quickly hid behind the door and answered softly, “Not yet…”
She looked back at the mirror and frowned. In her little mind, she thought she looked silly. The shirt was too colorful, and the pants made her look clumsy. She crossed her arms and refused to come outside.
A few minutes later, her mother entered the room and found Lyly sitting sadly on the floor. “What happened?” she asked gently.
Lyly pointed at the clothes and made a disappointed face. She did not want to wear the outfit because she thought it was ugly. Her mother tried not to laugh because Lyly looked adorable even while pouting angrily.
“My sweet girl,” her mother said kindly, “these clothes may look funny, but you are beautiful no matter what you wear.”
But Lyly still felt unsure. She slowly walked outside with her head lowered, hoping nobody would notice her strange outfit.
As they reached the market, something unexpected happened. Many people smiled warmly at Lyly. Some even complimented her colorful clothes. One little child laughed happily and said Lyly looked like a bright sunflower walking through the crowd.
Hearing the compliments surprised her. Lyly slowly became more confident. Soon, she forgot all about her embarrassment and happily walked beside her mother, proudly showing off her colorful outfit.
By the end of the day, Lyly was laughing and dancing around the market without any hesitation at all. She finally realized that clothes do not decide whether someone is beautiful or lovable. Confidence and happiness shine much brighter than any outfit ever could.
Her mother smiled proudly while holding Lyly’s tiny hand on the way home, happy to see her little monkey smiling again.
