One sunny morning, Monkey LYLY woke up feeling very excited. She had been thinking about something all morning—a giant pumpkin she had seen growing in the garden. It was bigger than any pumpkin she had ever seen, with bright orange skin and a thick green stem. LYLY dreamed about eating it.
When LYLY came into the kitchen, her mother had already prepared a delicious meal. There was warm rice, fresh vegetables, and some sweet fruit on the table. Her mother smiled and called her over.
“LYLY, come and eat your breakfast,” Mom said gently.
But LYLY shook her head. She crossed her arms and pointed toward the garden.
“I don’t want this food. I want the giant pumpkin!” she insisted.
Her mother tried to explain that the pumpkin was still growing and was not ready to eat. She encouraged LYLY to have some breakfast first, but LYLY refused. She pushed the bowl away and walked outside.
In the garden, LYLY stood beside the giant pumpkin and stared at it with sparkling eyes. She imagined cutting it open and enjoying a huge piece. She tried to pull it from the vine, but it was far too heavy.
“Why won’t you come with me?” LYLY complained.
She pulled again and again, but the pumpkin didn’t move. Soon, LYLY became tired and sat down beside it. Her stomach began to rumble because she had refused breakfast.
Her mother quietly walked into the garden and sat beside her.
“LYLY, sometimes the things we want cannot be enjoyed immediately,” Mom said. “Good things need time to grow.”
LYLY looked at the pumpkin and then at her mother. She finally understood that the giant pumpkin needed more time before it could become food.
Feeling sorry, LYLY hugged her mother.
“I’m sorry, Mom. I should have eaten the food you prepared for me.”
Mom smiled and hugged her back. She brought LYLY some breakfast, and this time, LYLY happily ate everything.
Afterward, they watered the pumpkin together and promised to take care of it until it was fully ripe.
From that day on, LYLY learned an important lesson: patience makes waiting for something special even more rewarding. When the giant pumpkin was finally ready, Mom and LYLY would enjoy it together.
