It was a hot afternoon in the forest, and the sun shone brightly through the tall trees. Baby monkey Zika sat on a branch, fanning himself with a big leaf. “It’s so hot… I wish I had something cool to eat,” he sighed.
Just then, his eyes spotted something amazing on the ground below—a big, round watermelon! Its green stripes glistened in the sunlight, and it looked perfectly ripe. Zika’s mouth watered instantly. “Watermelon!!!” he squealed with excitement.
Without wasting a second, Zika climbed down the tree as fast as he could. He ran toward the watermelon and hugged it tightly. “You’re mine!” he said happily. But there was just one problem—it was too big and too hard for him to open.
Zika tried everything. He tapped it with a stick. Knock, knock! Nothing happened. He pushed it against a rock. Still no crack. He even tried biting it, but quickly pulled back. “Ouch! My teeth!” he cried.
Zika sat down, feeling frustrated. “Why is this so hard?” he muttered. Just when he was about to give up, he heard a familiar voice.
“Need some help?” It was his uncle, smiling as he walked over.
“Yes, please!” Zika said eagerly. “I really want to eat this watermelon, but I can’t open it.”
His uncle chuckled. “Sometimes, you just need the right way to do things.” He picked up a small stone and gently but firmly hit the watermelon at just the right spot.
CRACK!
The watermelon split open, revealing bright red, juicy flesh inside. Zika’s eyes widened with joy. “Wow!!!”
He quickly grabbed a slice and took a big bite. “Mmm! So sweet and refreshing!” he said, juice dripping down his chin.
His uncle laughed. “See? Patience and a little help can make things easier.”
Zika nodded, smiling happily. “Thank you, Uncle! Next time, I’ll remember not to rush and to ask for help.”
As they sat together enjoying the delicious watermelon, Zika felt cooler, happier, and a little wiser.
And from that day on, every time Zika saw a watermelon, he remembered—sometimes the best things come with patience and a little teamwork.
