Monkey Lily sat quietly beside her father’s bed, her little face filled with worry. The cheerful baby monkey who usually loved running and playing around the house was now unusually silent. Her father had been very sick for several days, and the family did not have enough money to buy all the medicine he needed.
Every morning, Lily watched her mother carefully prepare warm soup while trying to hide her tears. Seeing her parents so worried made Lily’s heart ache. She wanted to help somehow, even though she was still small.
In Lily’s tiny wooden box, there was one thing she loved more than anything else — a beautiful little music toy her father had given her on her birthday. Whenever the toy played its sweet melody, Lily would dance happily around the yard. She protected it carefully and never let anyone touch it.
That afternoon, Lily quietly opened the box and stared at the toy for a long time. Her eyes slowly filled with tears. She hugged it tightly against her chest because she knew what she had to do.
Without telling anyone, Lily walked to the small village market carrying the toy carefully in her arms. The road felt longer than usual. She looked nervous but determined. Some people at the market smiled sadly when they saw the little monkey trying to sell her precious toy.
A kind shop owner asked gently, “Are you sure you want to sell this? It looks very special to you.”
Lily lowered her head and nodded softly. She explained that her father was sick and needed medicine. The shop owner felt touched by Lily’s love for her father. He bought the toy and even gave her a little extra money.
Lily hurried home holding the medicine tightly. When her parents discovered what she had done, they were completely shocked. Her mother burst into tears while her father held Lily close with trembling hands.
“Why would you give away your favorite thing?” her father asked emotionally.
Lily smiled softly and wiped away her tears. “Because Dad is more important than any toy.”
The room became filled with both sadness and warmth. Although Lily missed her beloved music toy, she felt happy knowing her father was smiling again. That day, everyone realized how big and pure little Lily’s heart truly was.
