Lily was excited to spend the day with Dad in the garden. The sun was shining, and Dad had an important job to do—collecting healthy sweet potato leaves to plant in their garden.
When Lily saw Dad preparing his tools, she immediately wanted to help.
Dad explained that they needed to choose strong, fresh sweet potato stems because they would have a better chance of growing into healthy plants. Lily listened carefully and nodded, determined to become Dad’s little gardening assistant.
Together, they walked through the garden and looked for suitable sweet potato vines. Lily carefully examined each one before pointing to the healthiest-looking stems.
“This one, Dad!” Lily seemed to say proudly.
Dad smiled and agreed that Lily had made a good choice.
Lily carefully helped Dad pick the sweet potato stems. She was gentle and tried not to damage the leaves. Whenever she found a long, healthy vine, she excitedly carried it over to Dad.
But Lily soon became so enthusiastic that she started collecting more and more leaves!
Dad laughed when he saw the growing pile beside Lily. He reminded her that they only needed enough healthy stems for planting.
Lily looked at the huge pile and seemed to realize that she had gotten a little carried away.
After collecting enough stems, Dad showed Lily how to prepare them for planting. He carefully removed unnecessary leaves and explained how the stems should be placed in the soil.
Lily watched closely and then tried to help.
She gently placed one stem into the prepared soil while Dad guided her hands. After covering the roots with soil, Lily proudly patted the ground.
She looked at her newly planted sweet potato vine with a big smile.
Dad praised Lily for being such a smart and helpful little gardener.
Before they finished, Lily noticed another healthy vine nearby and immediately ran toward it.
Dad laughed and called her back, saying, “We have enough!”
Lily stopped, turned around, and giggled.
The two of them finished their gardening work together. Lily was tired but very happy because she had learned something new.
As they walked home, Lily proudly looked back at the garden.
She couldn’t wait to return and see her sweet potato plants grow!
