The sun rose gently over the trees, but for baby monkey Zika, the day didn’t feel bright at all. She woke up with a heavy heart, her tiny eyes still sleepy and her mood already gloomy. Something just didn’t feel right.
Zika climbed down from her cozy spot, hoping a fresh morning would cheer her up. Usually, she loved jumping from branch to branch, feeling the cool breeze on her face. But today, her jumps were slow and clumsy. On her third try, she slipped and landed softly on the ground. It didn’t hurt much, but it made her feel even more upset.
Trying to distract herself, Zika looked for her favorite fruit tree. She imagined the sweet taste that always made her smile. But when she reached it, she found the branches nearly empty. Only a few unripe fruits hung high above, far beyond her reach. Her ears drooped, and she let out a small, disappointed sigh.
As she wandered further, she spotted her friends playing nearby. Normally, Zika would rush over to join them, laughing and swinging happily. But today, when she tried to join, she missed a swing and tumbled awkwardly. The other monkeys paused, unsure whether to laugh or help. Embarrassed, Zika quickly ran away, her eyes filling with tears.
The day only seemed to get worse. Dark clouds rolled in, and soon a light rain began to fall. Zika, now cold and tired, curled up under a tree, hugging herself tightly. She felt lonely, hungry, and frustrated all at once.
Just when she thought the day couldn’t get any harder, she heard a soft call. It was her mother. Gently, her mom approached and wrapped her in a warm embrace. Zika couldn’t hold it in anymore—she began to cry.
Her mother softly comforted her, wiping away her tears and holding her close. Slowly, Zika began to feel safe again. The rain eased, and the world didn’t seem so heavy anymore.
Some days are just hard—but with love and comfort, even the saddest days can slowly turn gentle again.
