One sunny afternoon, little Monkey Lyly came home happily after playing with her friends in the yard. In her tiny hands, she carried a colorful bag of candy that her aunt had given her as a special treat. Her eyes sparkled with excitement as she imagined enjoying every sweet piece.
She quickly placed the candy bag on the table and ran off to wash her hands, already thinking about which flavor she would eat first. Strawberry? Orange? Or maybe the shiny chocolate one?
But when Lyly came back, something felt different.
She opened the bag and froze. The colorful candies she loved were gone. In their place were plain fruit snacks and small wrapped nuts. Lyly’s happy face suddenly turned into disappointment.
“Mom!” Lyly cried, her eyes filling with tears. “Who changed my candy?”
Her mother walked over gently and sat beside her. “I did, Lyly,” she said softly.
Lyly looked upset and confused. “But why? Those candies were my favorite!”
Her mother lovingly stroked her head and explained, “Your aunt gave them to you with love, but I noticed there were too many sweets. If you eat all that candy, your tummy might hurt, and your teeth could get cavities.”
Lyly looked down at the bag, still feeling sad.
Her mom continued, “So I swapped some of the candy with fruit snacks and nuts. They are still tasty, but much healthier for you. I wanted to protect you, not make you sad.”
Lyly stayed quiet for a moment. Then she remembered the last time she had eaten too much candy and ended up with a stomachache. Slowly, she began to understand.
“So… you did it because you care about me?” Lyly asked.
Her mom smiled warmly. “Of course, my little one. Sometimes love means making choices that keep you safe and healthy.”
Lyly gave her mom a big hug. “I’m sorry, Mom. Thank you for caring for me.”
In the end, Lyly happily shared the fruit snacks with her mom, learning that true love sometimes comes in unexpected ways.
