One afternoon, LYLY came home after spending hours playing outside with her friends. She was hungry and couldn’t stop thinking about what she wanted to eat. As soon as she walked into the kitchen, she smelled her mother’s delicious vegetable soup and freshly cooked rice. Mom had prepared the family’s favorite meal with love, just as she always did.
But today, LYLY had something different in mind.
She looked at the table and sighed. “Mom, we always eat the same kinds of meals,” she said with a playful pout. “I want to make my own special dish today!”
Her mother looked surprised but smiled kindly. “Oh? And what special dish do you have in mind?” she asked.
LYLY’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “I want to make my own colorful veggie pancakes! I’ll use carrots, corn, spinach, and cheese. I think everyone will love them!”
Instead of becoming upset, Mom laughed softly. “That’s a wonderful idea,” she replied. “Cooking is a great skill to learn. I’ll help you, but you’ll do most of the work.”
The two of them washed fresh vegetables from the family garden. LYLY carefully grated the carrots, chopped the spinach with a child-safe knife, and mixed everything into a bowl with flour, eggs, and a little cheese. She stirred the batter with great enthusiasm while Mom guided her step by step.
Soon, the pancakes were sizzling in the pan, filling the kitchen with a wonderful aroma. LYLY couldn’t wait to taste them. When they were finally ready, she proudly placed the golden pancakes on a large plate and decorated them with slices of cucumber and cherry tomatoes to make smiling faces.
Dad arrived home just in time for dinner. Curious about the colorful meal, he took his first bite and smiled. “These are delicious!” he said. “Great job, LYLY!”
Hearing the praise made LYLY beam with pride. She realized that creating a meal took patience, effort, and care—just like all the meals her mother prepared every single day.
After dinner, LYLY hugged her mom tightly. “I’m sorry for complaining about your cooking,” she said sincerely. “Now I understand how much love you put into every meal.”
Mom smiled warmly and hugged her back. “It’s okay to try new recipes,” she said. “The important thing is appreciating each other’s efforts.”
From that day on, LYLY still loved experimenting with fun new dishes, but she also looked forward to her mother’s homemade meals. Together, they often cooked side by side, turning every meal into a happy family adventure filled with laughter, creativity, and love.
