It started like any other normal morning, but by midday, something unusual had everyone worried—CUTIS was nowhere to be found. Dad called out his name again and again, checking every room, the backyard, even the garage. “Where could he possibly go without telling anyone?” Dad muttered, his voice filled with concern.
CUTIS had never left home without permission before.
As the hours passed, Dad’s worry slowly turned into anxiety. He sat quietly in the living room, staring at the door, hoping CUTIS would walk in at any moment. Memories of their time together filled his mind—teaching him small tasks, laughing during meals, and sharing quiet evenings.
“Why didn’t he say anything?” Dad whispered softly.
Just as the sun began to set, the front door slowly creaked open.
There stood CUTIS.
He looked a little tired, his hands slightly dirty, but his eyes sparkled with excitement. “Dad… I’m back,” he said gently.
Dad rushed over, a mix of relief and confusion on his face. “Where have you been? I was so worried!” he said, placing his hands on CUTIS’s shoulders.
CUTIS didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he reached behind his back and carefully pulled out a small, handmade box. It was simple, a bit uneven, and clearly made with great effort.
“I went out to prepare this… for you,” CUTIS said quietly.
Dad looked at the box, surprised. Slowly, he opened it. Inside was a small handcrafted gift—something CUTIS had spent the whole day making. It wasn’t perfect, but it carried something far more valuable: love and thoughtfulness.
CUTIS looked down shyly. “You always work so hard for us… I just wanted to do something special for you.”
For a moment, Dad couldn’t say anything. His eyes grew watery as he gently held the gift. “This… this means more to me than anything,” he said, his voice soft and emotional.
He pulled CUTIS into a tight hug.
“I was worried because I care about you,” Dad continued. “But now I understand. Thank you… this really touched my heart.”
CUTIS smiled, feeling relieved and happy.
That evening, the house felt warmer than ever. And though CUTIS learned the importance of telling others before leaving, his small act of love created a memory Dad would never forget.
